Dr. McFarland earned a PhD in Clinical Psychology with specialized training in neuropsychology at the University of Arizona. He completed a clinical neuropsychology internship and a 2-year postdoctoral fellowship in neuropsychology at the Boston VA Hospital, while also serving as a Clinical Fellow at Harvard University Medical School and a Research Fellow at the Boston University School of Medicine. His postdoctoral fellowship was centered around the diagnosis and treatment of traumatic brain injury, dementia, and many other medical conditions, and the development of cognitive rehabilitation programs.

In addition to completing intensive training in the diagnosis and treatment of TBI and dementia, Dr. McFarland has extensive experience conducting neuropsychological evaluations to assess for a wide variety of conditions and concerns, including ADHD, learning disability, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, and movement disorders, among other conditions. He also has an extensive clinical and research background in cognitive rehabilitation (e.g., memory strategy, problem-solving), which allows him to work closely with clients to develop strategies to increase their functioning and enhance overall well-being.

Dr. McFarland received specialized training to provide individual and group therapy to people who may struggle with depression and anxiety in the context of cognitive dysfunction. Many of his therapy clients have had a traumatic brain injury or stroke. He has also worked closely with people struggling with ADHD to develop strategies to overcome the challenges that ADHD can present.
